Government College Lahore began its journey on January 1, 1864, with a class consisting of nine students. It was twelve years later with 115 pupils, a staff of able scholars, painstaking tutors and prescient educationists having a vibrant vision for the future, that GC was shifted to its present location in Anarkali. After 138 years of meritorious evolution and achievement, Government College, Lahore was raised to the status of a University in 2002, and was renamed as GC University Lahore.
This institution takes pride in being the oldest educational institution of higher learning in Pakistan, having almost 10,000 students and 400 teaching faculty. It is a centre of academic excellence and intellectual development in the country. Graduates from the University continue to be leaders in all walks of life, steered by three basic guiding principles: efficiency, relevance and quality.
